We were a small group on Monday with only 14 in attendance. Angelo and Sue are in N.Z. and Peter, Ian and George and all in China. We did see Warren Bolton who has been away for some months. He gave us a short over view of his travels round Australia. He also surprised us all by telling us that he is engaged and getting married in March next year to Mariana, we extend our warmest congratulations to them. They are going to live in Avoca near Harold and Gina. Harold was our guest speaker and spoke about Rotary International. As always Harold was a very informative and entertaining speaker, Thank you for stepping in at short notice. Egmont brought along a friend to the meeting Lynne, she said she is interested to join our club. We look forward to having Peter return to our meeting next Monday with news of China.
Celia (Acting President)
OUR MEETING ON MONDAY 31 OCTOBER
CUFA : Working to combat poverty in the Asia-Pacific region
Rebecca is Deputy CEO and head of fundraising for CUFA, an economic development agency which works to combat poverty in the Asia-Pacific region. She has spent the last two decades working in marketing, fundraising, sponsorship, digital strategy and customer loyalty across the not-for-profit and corporate sectors.
Prior to joining CUFA, she held senior roles in the performing arts in Australia. Rebecca is currently chair of the National Young Writers Festival.
Our Past District Governor, Harold Sharp, stepped in at the last minute as our Guest Speaker. Harold is celebrating 40 years in Rotary, starting in Bondi Junction.
Harold took us thru some history of Rotary International since it started with 4 members back in 1905 in Chicago, before expanding to 1.2million members over 200 countries. Women were allowed to join from 1987, but we still have a few clubs who do not allow women.
We were reminded we were not members of RI, but members of Crows Nest Rotary Club.
Harold re-enforced the four keys of Rotary. 1) Sustaining membership, 2) Service projects for your OWN community, 3) International projects and 4) developing future leaders. A summary of Rotary programs (i.e. RYLA) was also thrown in.
Harold also gave us an insight into what he sees as the good in Rotary, as well as areas where we can improve. The good far outweigh the bad, and focusing on the positives he is a dedicated Rotarian for life.
Finally a summary of our district activities, and the great fellowship he had in overseas trips for the district.
The club is blessed to have Harold’s experience & dedication.
Celia Coote announced Peter & Co have arrived in China, after a few travel dramas!
Warren Bolton is now engaged – Congratulations for us all. We also appreciated his stories about his 21,000km trip around SA,WA & NT. Well recommended.
Weekly members’ jackpot draw has been won by Celia, so back to a full deck of cards.
Philip Smith announced that Richard Woodburn is a new director for the ROMAC board, replacing Rod Delieo.
Les Walsh’s is relocating to the Sunshine coast, and this was his last meeting. The club will miss Les’s fellowship and dedication to the club & district, and wishes his family & him all the best in Queensland.
