This Monday, I thought a very friendly happy meeting. We had a very interesting speaker, a former RYLA participant, Matt Cannon. Matt is a local guy, who trained as a paramedic and nurse before ending up in the administrative wing of NSW Ambulance. However of late he has accepted a role in Papua New Guinea to improve their health service prior to international sporting events. More on this below.->
We also had another guest , Nuzhat Latif from Karachi, Pakistan. She has retired after 32 years in school administration. Her son lives locally and she hopes to visit us between life in Pakistan and Sydney.
Unfortunately Tiff was an apology due to a DVT necessitating a trip to the doctor - we wish her well. Simon was also an apology as his 85 year old mum is ill, and needs support - hope all goes well Simon.
Des Seeto has advised that he is off to the UK with his partner.
Bruce has rightfully complained that various items of our BBQ equipment are either missing or lost after the last BBQ, which is annoying to say the least but means we need to have a guide (ie. Cheat Sheet) on how to set the BBQ up and how to clean up afterwards.
Tomorrow I am off to Timor Leste together with Celia, Ian, Sue and Angelo. We hope to get our planned Global Grant in Timor organised with the northern Australian Rotary District and the new Rotary Club in Dili.
Unfortunately this trip will create some difficulties in the management of the Club. Celia and I will be away until 7 October ; Ian will be away until 13 October , so I have asked PP Bruce to run the Oct 12 meeting. Bruce is unable to confirm at this stage so John Saunders has kindly offered to backup if required – Thank you John for stepping up.
PP Ian will assume control of the meetings after that till my return.
September and October will be busy months – we need to organise our Crows Nest Festival presence and our New Member Introduction Night.
Yours in Rotary
Peter
