PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

Hello all,

This week’s meeting was a productive one covering off on the current activities of the club.   It was so good to see members discussing projects! We covered a lot of ground.  I believe 'Public Relations' is the key to attracting new members.  Last Weekend at the Crows Nest Fair we did put our best foot forward, communicated with the Public and I wish to thank all those members and friends that took part.  We certainly gave away a lot of Popcorn!   The Taldumunde project has now been signed off on and we are getting underway – thank you to Sue for coordinating.
A reminder that this Saturday night is the Poker night, – kick off is at 7pm at Norths, it would be good to see you all there! Short message this week,

Alon

We had an 'Honorary member' visit us!  Ken Chung, who is 84, together with his friend Dick Battel.  We hope to see you both next Monday!

Meeting on MONDAY the 23rd of October - The Speaker will be

As a family they have always had deep curiosity about humanism and a desire for contributing to social justice, which is what brings them to Rotary, and they have been members since April 2017.

MEETING ROSTER

LAST MONDAY's Meeting was a Club Forum

As readers are aware from news in previous Bulletins, the Club is spending much more 'face to face' discussion time during it's meetings, on Club Projects.  Therefore the Club has changed it's format so that every other week the meeting will have a Speaker presentation, and on the other week, the Club will spend time receiving reports from Club Directors and members, to update the Club members upon progress made with Club Projects during the previous fortnight.

This Forum we heard of news of progress of our Kenya Project Grant application and application of monies to Taldumande Youth Services - https://www.taldumande.org.au/

  • Discussion including the Charity Poker night on 21st October at North Sydney Leagues, see poster below.  The organiser Mark, is still accepting gifts to give away as prizes.  The proceeds from the night will be matched by the Club and will go to Delvena House. Women and Childrens Refuge and Mary's House.

  • The Crows Nest Fair went well - the banners were found in the trailer - it was quite busy giving out popcorn.  A volunteer was registered for the BBQ.  However no new interests in membership was forthcoming this time.  The two page A4 flyer listing our Beneficiaries was a success and was handed out to those who asked.  Some Trifecta Tickets were sold.  Having 'So They Can' attending was a success and they sold some of their goods.

  • Angelo reported that the Trifecta Tickets were a great success this year and the Club was selling theirs very well.

  • AGM is on the 6th November.  The future speaker program was discussed.

  • RYLA - one young lady had been identified and was listed to be interviewed.  Taldumande should be approached for suitable candidates.

  • The approach to the local Police to identify local community organisations needing help, has yet to be finalised.

  • Hippo Rollers for the Kenya project - Ian agreed to follow up about the type of terrain to determine whether the rollers were suitable.

  • It was agreed to boost our Facebook page, therefore contact to ‘we love Crowie’ to be followed up.

  • Philip advised on the International Fellowship of Motorcycling Rotarians big bike ride commencing 1st Nov for 14 days, raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and that the Board had sponsored the event for District Insurance purposes.

  • President Alon advised on the Neuroblastoma Australia Sienna Gala Dinner event of 23 February 2018, bring held at The Grand Reception, University of Sydney, the Club would be giving $3,000 package for next year, which would allow the Club to get advantageous coverage across the north shore.  $160 per person per 10 on a table.

  • President Alon, expressed a wish that this year, funds would be given to projects giving the Club ‘PR’ perspective, in order to attract new members, under 5 sub headings – Children’s Cancer, International projects, Domestic Violence, Local Community and Youth.  Let organisations come in and explain to us how we can help them.

In Other News

  • International Toast by Mark, was to the Rotary Club of Paraparaumu, New Zealand, his home town.  The Club has established a big retirement village over the last few years.
