Thank you all for joining us this Monday, we had a strong turnout at the meeting which was great to see. We discussed the portfolios of the board members present and had a great talk from Angelo (with corrections and excellent commentary from Sue) on their recent trip to Scandinavia. It looked like a great trip and is now on the list for me. This coming week we have Tom searching for a speaker but again, if you have any contacts you would like to hear from, please let me know so that we can arrange to hear from them in the coming months. That’s all from me - Have a great week!
As readers are aware from news in previous Bulletins, the Club is spending much more 'face to face' discussion time during it's meetings, on Club Projects. Therefore the Club has changed it's format so that every other week the meeting will have a Speaker presentation, and on the other week, the Club will spend time receiving reports from Club Directors and members, to update the Club members upon progress made with Club Projects during the previous fortnight.
LAST MONDAY's Meeting - 7th August 2017 - Angleo Raveane
This week our own member Angelo presented a Tour of Northern Europe, ie the Baltic countries, in 2017. Angelo explained that with his wife Sue, they were away for nine and a half weeks overseas.
Their holiday was made up of Israel and Jordan with Celia and Peter Coote, then a 29 day Baltic ‘Midnight Sun’ Cruise, then 20 days on a driving holiday in the UK. During the holiday Angelo took over 1,000 photos!
But in this presentation Angelo only covered the Baltic and Israel/Jordan will be covered in a later date together with Celia and Peter. You can see from the map that the Baltic Cruise on the ship 'Viking Sea', began in Stockholm, Sweden, then onto Russia’s St Petersburg, then onto six other countries. Sue assisted Angelo with some of the photo's sights and sounds and titles. Angelo explained that each night the ship cruised overnight and you woke up in a different port, in a different country! The ship was a Viking Ocean Cruise ship, that catered for 950 passengers, which was a good size not to get swamped by people. Where the ship docked on the coast, you could take transport inland, for example the ship docked in Warnebunde, Germany, and they took a train for a day’s outing to Berlin. Three ports were within the Arctic Circle, the farthest point being the city of Nordkapp, the most northerly point in Norway.
And it certainly was ‘the land of the midnight sun!’, where it was light 24 hours a day, which Angelo explained “was very hard to take”. The Club members thanked Angelo and Sue for their presentation.
In accordance with the Club’s new meeting format, during the meeting, the President received several quick reports from Directors upon the progress made with the Club’s projects during the last week.
