PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

Hello, Members and our Rotary Friends receiving this eBulletin.

This is my last President’s Message, because my year as your President ends when I handover to President Elect Ross next Monday evening 27th June.  I hope you are all coming to this event.
It has been a challenging year for the Club, what with Covid lockdowns and as a consequence continuous Zoom meetings until almost December 2021.  As a result the Club’s activities have been reduced and our income has also been reduced.  But despite that, the Club has contributed to organisations in need throughout the year, culminating in a donation to The Rotary Foundation of $2,500.
I am very thankful that I have had a very hard working Board of Directors and supporting the Club, many hard working members and volunteers.  I thank them all.  But my greatest supporter is my wife Cathie, and I thank her for all her assistance and encouragement throughout the year.  I have enjoyed my year as President very much!
The Rotary theme for next Rotary year is 'Imagine Rotary'.  We all wish President Elect Ross, a very successful year.

On Monday 27th June we have our Presidential Changeover Dinner from 6.30pm, coupled with a presentation of ‘Pride of Workmanship' Awards.   But most important for the Club is a new member will be inducted!
Our next meeting on Zoom will be on Monday 4th July,  Click here at 12.30pm to join us!

Covid is still around in our community, so stay safe, be careful, wear your mask!

This month's theme is Rotary Fellowships Month!
June is designated Rotary Fellowships Month to recognize the importance of international fellowship and goodwill among Rotarians with similar recreational and vocational interests, promote increased participation in fellowships, and increase understanding of this program.

What are the benefits for Rotarians in joining the Rotary Fellowships? Fellowship provides opportunities for Rotarians to make lasting friendships outside their own Club, District or country. Fellowships contribute to the advancement of world understanding and peace. Also, Fellowships serve as an incentive for attracting new members to Rotary and retaining our existing members. Indeed, Rotary Fellowship, together with the Rotarian Action Groups, serve as an effective tool in promoting membership development and should be actively promoted in our Districts.

There are many Fellowships that would be of interest to our members, and they are detailed on http://www.rotary.org/fellowships.

One of our President's favourite Fellowships is the "International Fellowship of Motorcycling Rotarians, and here they are at a group meeting!  They are Rotarians from all around the World!

Our Next Meeting is our Presidents Changeover Dinner on Monday 27th June 2022.

Our Last face to face Meeting on Monday 6th June, Georgia Thacker, from Canteen paid us a visit, to give us an update on their project to supply Xboxes to children who would benefit. You may remember that the club donated $5,000 for this project.

Canteen have purchased 8 Xboxes and they are “leased” to needy children for 1 year, before being re-evaluated. Canteen expressed enormous gratitude for our assistance and walked us thru two examples of children who have benefited greatly. One being “Charlie” who is autistic, with a high potential for cancer, and who’s sister is already suffering from cancer. One Xbox was sent to the Newcastle Cancer Hub, while another is ready for a “video games event” at Canteen’s Sydney office.

We thanked Georgia for an informative update and Kate for facilitating this donation. We really appreciated getting an understanding of the benefit this project brought to young children who are suffering from cancer, or have family members with cancer.
