Great to see the turn up for last Monday evening’s Meeting, however we would like to see a few more, in particular those who are unable to make the lunchtime Meetings.
Edmund D’Cruz, our Guest Speaker, certainly raised a few eyebrows as he updated us on the IT Lab, which we had financially assisted in getting off the ground through a District Grant last year. He had a special award, which he called the FIGJAM award, which certainly got a few laughs when Tom explained an optional meaning.
Good to see that our District Grant for iPads for the Community Centre ,to support those isolated in our Community, has now been approved.
During the week, Angelo, Mark, Owen and myself reviewed the Budget, and with a few minor changes is ready for presentation and approval. Well done to all.
A special mention for Swapna, and the good work she has done on our Facebook entry with ever increasing interest both within and outside Australia, and appears a great tool to promote our activities ,in particular with the Melbourne Cup Trifecta coming up.
Finally a plea for those who haven’t yet to complete the Membership Satisfaction Survey ,as we are about to finalise the results at he end of next week.
Our Next Meeting on Monday 31st August 2020 - Denise Ward - Crows Nest Community Centre
Connects our community
At the heart of Crows Nest, the Crows Nest Centre connects our local community with a variety of centre and home support services.
Dedicated staff and volunteers work with older people, people with a disability, migrants, parents and people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Mel Corner, our Volunteer Coordinator, along with Denise will present to our Club!
Edmund De Cruz, CEO of Phoenix house gave us an update on their IT Lab project. Last financial year we donated $3000, which was matched by a district grant, for this project.
Edmund reported that the IT Lab has been established. A project has been launched to create a Podcast. These Podcast will teach young people how to market themselves and to build a website, as well as networking with potential guest speakers. the Health department has already been engaged. We will have a Youth voice for the local area, and the students themselves learns career skills to engage the local community, manage social media and develop websites. They have develop a website which links to digital courses like a programming course from Leeds University.
Edmund also walked us thru the current process of Phoenix House's application to become a school in 2022. We look forward to seeing how that develops.
