Next Monday is my last Board Meeting as President of the Rotary Club of Crows Nest. On the Club’s Changeover night on Wednesday 27th June, I will hand over the President’s reins to the President Elect, Sue Raveane. I have enjoyed my year as President and I think the Club has achieved a lot over the last 11 months and it continues to achieve, and that’s what Rotary is all about, being able to do more as a group, than as an individual. If you wish to see and experience what Rotary Clubs are all about, then I invite you to come and be our guest next Monday 4th June at our Board Meeting in the Church Hall, The Northside Baptist Church, 63-65 Willoughby Road, Crows Nest. Thank you to all, who have made my year as President so very special to me.
See you Monday!
a Board Meeting is an open Forum for all members and guests to attend. During the meeting the Club's Directors will update the President and attendees with the progress they have made over the last month on the Club's projects under their vocation. The President invites all members and anyone interested in experiencing what Rotary achieves, to come and join us in our Board Meeting next Monday.
Last Monday's Meeting, 28 May 2018, the Speaker was Rotarian Peter Hojgaard-Olsen

1st July 2016 marked the start of the full rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. This was a historic day for thousands of people who have fought hard to make the NDIS a reality. The celebration of the NDIS belongs to Australians with disability, their families and carers, and the people who love them. When it is fully rolled out, the NDIS will support about 460,000 people with disability to live independent and fulfilling lives. The Labor Party designed, introduced and fully funded the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It is the biggest social reform since Medicare. However Peter pointed out that there are 1.4 million people with a profound disability, so there is a discrepancy in the official figures. Despite this initiative, 120,000 people with a disability need housing and that need isn’t being addressed by NDIS.
Peter’s son has dual citizenship with Denmark and has decided to stay in Denmark because in that country their Disability Policy is a coherent and integrated part of the values and norms on which the Danish society is based. So they encourage people with a disability to become independent.

Last Weekend was the Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal, which raised in total $4 million plus! From the Rotary point of view, the partnering of the three Clubs - Crows Nest, North Sydney Sunrise and North Sydney - and the resources and volunteers from ACU, made an important statement for our ability to engage with the community, in a very practical and positive way. At the end of the Doorknock week, we banked just over $13,000 - about much the same as last year. A great effort.
