Hello, Members and our Rotary Friends receiving this eBulletin.
As we enter the 14th week of Sydney’s Lockdown, it was good to hear that double vaccinated people will be ‘let loose’,,, no that’s not quite correct yet, but from 11th October we will be able to do a lot more with ourselves outside of our homes. Thank goodness for that! Once our meeting venue is available to us, our Club has decided to continue our Zoom meetings on alternate Mondays. So watch this space and as we open up I’ll keep you advised.
And don’t forget this Friday night 1st October at 6pm on Zoom, is our ‘Chinwag’ evening, (see below) when we can relax over a glass of beverage. Our special guest knows all about the wine industry in Australia, so that should be interesting and you can ask questions. Click here at 6.00pm
Have a safe week during Lockdown and remember to keep in touch with family and friends.
Next month; Sunday 10th October is World Mental Health Day; During this time of uncertainty and heightened anxiety in our community, we are encouraging all Rotarians, to look after the mental health of their families and friends.
Sunday 24th October is World Polio Day; Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever. Lets celebrate this Day!

A casual get-together (virtual on Zoom) and a casual chat,,, at the end of the working week ie Friday evening. Feedback from attendees was really positive. To that end a date of Friday 1st October 2021 at 6pm is booked.

That’s this Friday evening, and we have a very special visitor who is going to talk about the Australian Wine industry and how wine is made. Don’t miss it! 🍷🍷🍷👍👍👍😜😜😜🇦🇺
‘Chinwag’ get togethers, are a bit like going to the pub for a beer - you never know who you will meet, what you will talk about, but you do know it will be fun. And in a Chinwag using ‘Zoom’….you don’t need an Uber to get home!
No registration, just turn up! Relax, and chat or just listen to the others.
Bring/invite a friend along and if you wish to talk about a particular subject (photo, project) or even wish to invite or know of a guest speaker to address our chinwag, just email to arrange; rotarycrowsnest@gmail.com
The next Chinwag is this Friday 6pm, 1st October 2021. !! 🍷🍷🍷👍👍👍😜😜😜🇦🇺
Our BBQ Volunteer Wal Moore gave us a fascinating insight to “Light Painting”. This is photography using light tools with breath-taking effect.
Using torches, sparklers, ball of light (string with 360degree torch) & light painting stick(torch in a tube) for these effects. As long as you have a camera which can expose for 2-30secs, tripod, those tools & a subject you too can do this. Albeit with a lot of practise & planning! All was explained with a demonstration video showing techniques of simply swinging a tube behind a subject, and then an example when the subject moves & not the light. You are only constrained by your imagination.
Wal - thank you for a fascinating & understandable presentation

I was inspired to bring the idea of launching a Canteen bandanna (designed by fellow committee member and youth ambassador Josh Bell) into space to the Leadership Committee, after I participated in a similar project in 2019 that launched two pieces of vegemite toast to the edge of space. Since bringing the idea of launching a bandanna to the team, it's been amazing to see everyone get behind it and work so hard to bring this to life.
In between my cancer treatments and feeling a little worse for wear, being involved with the vegemite project really empowered me and helped shift how I view myself. I'm hopeful the Bandanna in Space project will impact others in the same way, while also raising awareness for the amazing work and support that Canteen provides!
