PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

Hi everyone,

How exciting are our Rotary meetings each week?  Last week we arrived at the Crows Nest Hotel to find 650 teenagers and young adults all lined up outside waiting to enter.   Are they all coming to Rotary?    I think not. They were gathered as part of a 'SLIDERS' theme night upstairs with them in various costumes and make up.  We however were allocated a quiet bar and booths downstairs.
The excitement continued as we heard Brigette Heeney ( Catherine's daughter) extol the excitement of her week at RYLA.   The presenters, the subjects, her fellow Rylarians, the challengers, the leadership scenarios, the lack of sleep and all the rest.  It was the best of times for her and the friends she made that week.

Thanks Brigette for a great talk.

BBQ Roster - Now finalised.

Toast:
Mark Staples toasted the of Rotary Club of Tauranga

Bridgett Heeney, who we sponsored to RYLA last month, gave us an informal overview of her week long experience  at RYLA.
Bridgett, currently a International Business graduate, absolutely loved RYLA, despite the 7am - 10.30pm days.  The speakers were great, enjoyable simulations of various situations needing leadership.
Whilst learning what makes a good leader(i.e. effective communication), most important was the feedback on herself giving her a injection of confidence, and a new ability to 'speak out'.
Bridget was highly impressed and recommends this course.

The members appreciated this insight (& refresher) into what RYLA is all about, and the impact it has on those attending. We will continue to sponsor attendees.

Thanks Bridget for you feedback
