At Monday’s Meeting we welcomed Guest Speaker John Friedsam from Canteen Australia.
We also welcomed prospective Member Anthony Jayaraj to our Meeting. Anthony, we look forward to inducting you as a Member in the near future.
Last weekend, Harold, Angelo and I attended District 9685’s Conference in Newcastle. Overall it was a very successful conference. It was a chance to hear from Fellow Rotarians and Guest Speakers Of the fantastic Projects and works they participated in and the wonderful results achieved.
We listened to presenters who made us laugh as they told us their stories. On example was PDG John Prendergast who gave a very humorous account of “his” self proclaimed project , to market undies with the Rotary Down Under logo on them. He then went on to give the reasons his pet project failed especially when he wanted to add the theme as well.
We also were reduced to tears as the presenter from ROMAC told the story of Charles from Vanuatu . Charles was a severely handicapped young boy, unable to walk, talk, go to school or play. His life was one of solitude . To see his recovery was astounding and a credit to the Doctors, nursing staff and ROMAC.
I wish to thank John Friedsam on a very informative talk showcasing the many and varied workings of Canteen Australia. I now have a more informed understanding of the workings and support services Canteen Australia provides to the parents and siblings of young people ages 12 to 25 whose lives are impacted with a cancer diagnosis . An outstanding organisation.
Our 50th Anniversary Dinner is progressing well. Please RSVP to Kate as soon as you can.
