PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

Hello, Members and our Rotary Friends receiving this eBulletin.

It was great to see so many guests at Monday night dinner meeting.
A big Thank You to Peter Hojgaard-Olsen for a passionate & extremely interesting talk on his new enterprise, in Denmark, for social integration called Integrated Living Community.
Also a warm welcome Yogesh , a visiting Rotarian from Nepal.

Next week we need to finalise our representation to the District assembly.

Finally I'm looking for any interest in attending the Rotary International Convention, as we are trying to put a group together for an interesting weekend in Melbourne. I have attended a number of these and I highly recommend them.

Yours in Rotary Service
President Ross

Last Meeting - Monday  27th March - Integrated Living Community with Peter Hojgaard-Olsen

Toast:  Bill toasted the     Rotary Club of Salt Lake City

Peter took us thru how he is creating an Integrated Living Community in Denmark. Details @ www.ilcdk.com

The 6 components required are Housing, Social Integration, Economic enterprise, Energy, Transport and Training/Holiday centre. The community is disability friendly and can be used for other groups like aged care, singles allowing all "types" to co-operate. It is interesting to note that 20% of Denmark are in social housing by choice.  Electric cars only, and growing food using Aquaponics(no soil) are a few items of note. His model community starting with a 150 acre farm designed for a community of 350, of which 75 have a disability.  Peter expects the project will take 3 years to complete and has interested from pension funds for the funding ($150 Million Euro). Once successful in Denmark Peter has his eyes on Australia.

A most passionate , and interesting talk - Thank you Peter
